CIArb Ireland welcomes the signing by the President, Michael C. Higgins, of the Mediation Act. Solicitors and barristers now have a statutory obligation to advise their clients of the mediation option and provide information on mediation services, including details of mediators, information about the advantages and benefits of mediation, information on confidentiality obligations and the enforceability of mediation settlements. The breakfast meeting ahead of the event at the DDRC included Mr. Justice Brian McGovern SC, the designated Arbitration Judge at the High Court.

CIArb Ireland launches its new website at the 2017 AGM. This new website will include a brand new design look and feel, responsive content to mobile devices, seamless payment options for courses and events, a simplified online services application and a publicly accessible members database for any member who wishes to create their own personal CIArb Ireland profile page. It was constructed to be Google friendly andis fully content managed to give us simple editing control over all website sections, text, photos, videos and search engine optimisation of site pages.

On 18 November 2016 Dublin-based Barrister James Bridgeman was elected by the world-wide membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators to serve as its President in 2018 and as Deputy President in 2017.
James Bridgeman is a practicing Barrister, Chartered Arbitrator, certified mediator and a member of the Ministerial panel of construction adjudicators. He holds practicing certificates as Barrister both in Ireland and in England and Wales. He is in general practice as advocate based at the Law Library Dublin and Lamb Chambers London with a focus on civil and commercial litigation, intellectual property, technology law, arbitration and ADR.
